Market insights

Structured insights on China’s battery market — from monthly data to policy changes, supply chain maps and custom research.

What a Briefing Covers

Market structure and monthly data

Production, sales, installation and export figures from the Alliance’s monthly series, translated in English with the scope, the period and the publishing body attached to each figure. Includes the LFP and ternary split and the year-on-year basis used.

Policy and standards watch

Changes to GB standards and to the IEC work China takes part in; battery passport, carbon-footprint accounting and CBAM as they apply to batteries exported from China. Each item is dated and linked to the issuing body.

Battery value chain map

The six segments, the types of organizations operating in each, and where the segment boundaries sit for the application you name.

Your set of questions

You send a list of questions. We answer them in writing and mark each answer as sourced, partially sourced, or not established from public records.

From request to delivery

1
Submit
You send: your question or topic.
We do: acknowledge it and, if the topic is broad, suggest how to narrow it.
You get: an acknowledgement and a proposed scope.
2
Scope
We do: confirm your questions, the depth, the format and the delivery date, in writing.
You get:an agreed scope note.
3
Deliver
We do: compile the briefing from the Alliance’s published series and from the issuing bodies’ own publications, with a source against every figure.
You get:the briefing.
4
Follow-up
We do: one round of written questions on the briefing.
You get:written answers

The data behind a briefing

Briefings are built on the monthly series published by the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance: production, sales and export volumes for power and energy-storage batteries, and installation volumes for vehicles produced in China. Every figure carries its scope, its period and its publishing body. Where a headline figure combines power and energy-storage batteries, we say so.

GWh
0

+40.4% YoY

Battery capacity installed in vehicles produced in China. Excludes exported cells and energy-storage batteries. LFP 625.3 GWh (81.2%); ternary 144.1 GWh (18.7%); other chemistries 0.3 GWh (under 0.1%).

GWh
0

+12.0% YoY

Same measure. LFP 272.0 GWh (81.0%); ternary 63.4 GWh (18.9%); other chemistries 0.2 GWh (0.1%).

Cool Number
0

+41.9% YoY

Power battery exports only. The headline export figure of 305.0 GWh for the same period covers power and energy-storage batteries combined.

Topics we are most often asked about

These are examples, not a fixed menu. If your question is not here, send it — the custom question set exists for exactly that.

Reaching China's battery supply chain: the compliance and qualification route

What a foreign buyer or partner has to satisfy, in what order, and which requirements sit with the supplier rather than with you.

Battery passport and carbon footprint: what applies to batteries made in China

The current requirements, who issues them, what data a Chinese supplier can and cannot provide today, and where the gaps are.

Monthly production, installation and export: the current picture

The latest published monthly and year-to-date figures, the LFP and ternary split, and the scope difference between installation and production figures.

CBAM and batteries exported from China: the current position

Scope, timing, reporting obligations, and what is still undecided.

The six-segment value chain map

Who operates in each segment, how the boundaries are drawn, and where a given application sits on the chain.

GB standards on battery safety: what changed and when it applies

The standards in force, the transition dates, and how they relate to the IEC equivalents.
